What types of funding can the team help me with?
There are many different levels of student finance that you can receive. You can receive help with your tuition fees and your living costs. The level of funding that you could receive will depend on your circumstances, but Student Finance England are here to help everyone afford their studies. For example, if you’re from a low-income family, (one earning under £42,611 per annum combined) then you could get up to £9000 to go towards your tuition fees for full-time courses. For more information on the different levels of funding that you could receive, contact the Student Finance customer service team on 0843 515 9418.
Not only can Student Finance England assist you with your tuition fees, they can also help you arrange finance for living costs. You can apply for a maintenance grant, which can help you with all your living costs including things such as utility bills, rent, food, equipment for your course and much more. If you successfully apply for the maintenance grant, then you will be paid this money into your account every term. For more information on applying for the maintenance grant, call the customer service team at Student Finance on 0843 515 9418
By contacting the team, can they advise me on what is best to apply for?
With the myriad of different types of grant and loan that are available, it is imperative that you are applying for the right type of financial help. Student Finance England can assist you in making the right choices the first time. Along with Student Finance grants, you can also apply for a Student Loan. Working much like the maintenance grant, this is paid directly into your account each term but unlike the grant, this has to be paid back. Any grants and loans you receive are balanced out, so the bigger the grant you receive, the less loan you are entitled to. You will only start paying this back when you get into full-time work and the amount you pay back all depends on how much you are earning in your full-time job. For students starting their studies after Sept 2012, the earning threshold is £21,000. So unless you’re earning that amount or more, you won’t be paying anything back. For students on courses before 1st Sept 2012, the earnings threshold is £16,365. Other types of finance are available including bursaries, help with studying abroad and help for those with disabilities.
24+ Advanced Learning Loan.
The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is a relatively new part of student financing. If you are over the age of 24 and you would like to start studying a course from the 1st August 2013, then you can apply for this loan. Courses covered by this loan are level 3, 4 and advanced/higher apprenticeships. To apply you don’t even need a confirmed place on your course, but the awarding of the money is of course dependant on acceptance. Many establishments accept the Advanced Learning Loan, although there are educational establishments that do not accept it as payment for a course. Distance learning, for example, is not covered in most circumstances with this loan.
To confirm what you can apply for, what award you may receive and where you can use it, call the Student Finance customer support team on this number – 0843 515 9418.
