How can I begin to make a new claim for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)?
Ahead of making a new claim for Employment and support allowance you will need to make an appointment to have a medical assessment to determine whether you are eligible for the benefit. It is mandatory that you attend a work capability assessment while your claim is being processed. In order to find out more about this or have what you already have seen online explained to you, the best thing to do is to call the customer services team immediately. The Employment and Support Allowance office will answer the call. Contact them on this number – 0843 515 9427, From there you can continue you to make your claim. Customer service representatives are also available to assist you with that number to advise you on how to fill in the claim forms correctly.
I’ve previously been on Incapacity Benefit and have got told I’m being transferred to Employment and Support Allowance. Who can I speak to about this?
The government are currently working on transferring all claimants on incapacity benefit to ESA, as it will be replacing incapacity benefit in the near future. This transfer should not affect the amount of money that you receive in benefit, but this not guaranteed. Are you confused as to any aspect of the transfer from incapacity benefit to Employment and Support Allowance? We advise that the first step you should make is to contact the Employment and Support Allowance helpline. Call this telephone number– 0843 5040 530. Upon reaching an advisor, you can then talk to them about the switching of benefits.
What are the risks of losing my benefit?
There is a strong chance of you losing your benefits amount from Employment and Support Allowance if you do not comply with the strict guidelines that are set in place. As with other benefits, the government can decide to reduce the amount that you get or freeze your benefit entirely if you do not adhere to the agreement you made when receiving the benefit. For example, if you can attend interviews and choose not to, this will place you in breach of your agreement, and you may have your benefit reduced or stopped entirely. The first step though will be a ‘sanction letter’ which you will receive through the post. If you’ve received this letter and are confused by it or wish to contest it, then the first thing that you should do is telephone the customer service team. Call the employment and support allowance contact number here on 0843 5040 530.
